The Western Alliance in Jeopardy?

Kevin Rudd defeated John Howard to become Prime Minister-elect of Australia. Australia is (or was) one of the West's long-standing allies and the down-under anchor of the Western Alliance.

So, now what becomes of the the Alliance? Will the Australians continue to stand with us against the Islamic onslaught? Or, will they become isolationists like the Kiwis? Only time will tell.

Potbelly Stove to Rowan Williams: MYOB

Anglican Leader Blasts US Over Iraq
Rowan Williams, the archbishop of Canterbury, criticized the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in an interview published Sunday, saying it was worse than the British land grabs of the colonial era…

Williams criticized the invasion of Iraq with no expectation of having to engage in nation building in the aftermath; a fair criticism on its face until one considers the audience: Muslim lifestyle magazine Emel. Suddenly Williams' comments take on an air of—what—pandering? Especially, when you consider this comment:

"We have only one global hegemonic power at the moment", Williams said. "It is not accumulating territory; it is trying to accumulate influence and control. That's not working".

Potbelly Stove thinks Williams' remarks are simply a ploy to curry favor with Muslims at our expense. It seems to us the Archbishop of Canterbury, having enough on his plate without trying to be a public scold, should mind his own business.

Evils of drugs and alcohol illustrated

Obama Says He Drank, Tried Drugs As Teen

Presidential hopeful Barack Obama on Tuesday told high school students that when he was their age he was hardly a model student, experimenting with illegal drugs and drinking alcohol.

"You know, I made some bad decisions that I've actually written about. You know, got into drinking…"

And, see what happened to Obama? Became a Democrat. Bad decision. Yep, drugs and alcohol is nasty stuff for a kid to get into.

Chavez doesn't know the meaning of 'shame'

'Shut Up' Chavez Ringtone Hit in Spain
MADRID, Spain — Many Spaniards were so amused when their king told Venezuela's president to "shut up" they want to hear the words every time their phone rings.

About half a million people have downloaded a mobile phone ringtone featuring the phrase "Por que no te callas?" or "Why don't you shut up?"

Heh. But, the blockheaded Chavez is too self absorbed to be embarrassed.

Paparazzi and Common Sense: Mutually Exclusive?

On Tape: Britney Runs Light with Kids in Car?

Yes, she made a left turn on red. And, yes, she was on the left side of the center stripe. Why? Because the paparazzi were standing in the street blocking the way. What's up with that?

It seems to me the paparazzi are part of the cause—part of the problem. They need to back off. Their right to earn a paycheck does not trump public safety or the safety of a driver and passengers no matter who that driver is.
