IPCC: Ship of Fools

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a United Nations network of 2,000 scientists, has issued two reports on the impacts of global warming.[1]

These two reports, crafted by about two dozen individuals, spelled out gloom and doom scenarios that have energized many activists around the World. The trouble is, the IPPC activity is mostly an exercise in politics backed more by conviction than by science.

There have been many objections to the panel's work from the scientific community. Undeterred, the IPCC and their supporters plough on…

The plan…lays out ways of dealing with those impacts.
The draft of the third report [the plan—Ed.] says the world must quickly embrace a basket of technological options _ already available and being developed _ just to keep the temperature rise to 3.6 degrees.

…like a Ship of Fools.

So, what is Putin up to?

[1] MOSCOW - Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that a planned U.S. missile shield in Central Europe was unacceptable because it would extend American control deep into Russian airspace, not deter Iran as Washington claims.
"These systems will control Russian territory up to the Urals _ if, of course, we do not take action in response, and we will," Putin said

So, what's Putin up to? Surely, he is knowledgeable enough to know those few interceptor missiles are no threat to Russia. We even invited their experts to examine the existing installations.

What is behind this behavior. Is Putin's grip on the Russians so tenuous that he is fabricating an outside threat?

What's up with him?

Huckabee's Son Arrested With Handgun [1]
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - David Huckabee, a son of Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, was arrested at an Arkansas airport Thursday after a federal X-ray technician detected a loaded Glock pistol in his carry-on luggage.

So, what is up with him? Sure, he had a concealed, carry permit. But, even the most bone-headed of people know that permit doesn't extend beyond their home jurisdiction.

So, what is up with him trying to get on a plane with a loaded pistol?

Is there a percieved class distinction amongst a certain set who believe they are above the laws of the land?

If you have a better explanation, leave a comment. Enquiring minds want to know.

Democratic Inquisition rolls on

Ranger Alleges Cover-Up in Tillman Case [1]

The details behind Cpl. Tillman's death in Afghanistan and Pvt. Lynch's rescue in Iraq are fraudulent! Fraudulent, I tell you!

The revelation came as committee members questioned whether, and when, top Defense officials and the White House knew that Tillman's death in eastern Afghanistan three years ago was actually a result of gunfire from fellow U.S. soldiers. The committee also heard from Jessica Lynch, the former Army private who was badly injured when her convoy was ambushed in Iraq in 2003. She was later rescued by American troops from an Iraqi hospital, but the tale of her ambush was changed into a story of heroism on her part

That's the story. We would never have suspected except for the heroic efforts of Public Servant, Rep. Henry Waxman, and his unselfish devotion to the Democratic Inquisition House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Well done, Rep. Waxman, for your Service to the People and the Nation.

Correction, Charles

 (AP Photo/Haraz N. Ghanbari)
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., speaks about the Iraq War during an event hosted by Third Way and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Monday, April 23, 2007, in Washington. Reid says Congress will soon pass an Iraq war spending bill that calls for a withdrawal of U.S. troops to start by October first, a says the legislation will be approved within days.

Tonight, on Special Report w/ Brit Hume, Charles Krauthammer responded to Reid's comments saying "The Democrats have totally capitulated to the Far Left."

Potbelly Stove would like to point out to Mr. Krauthammer, on faint chance that he missed it, that Sen. Reid not only represents the Far Left but he is a member in good standing.

Memo to General Patraeus

General Patraeus,Sir. With all due respect, WTF?

Sunni Struggle Claims 4th Fallujah Chief [1]
BAGHDAD - The Fallujah city council chairman, a critic of al-Qaida who took the job after his three predecessors were assassinated, was killed on Saturday, the latest blow in a violent internal Sunni struggle for control of an insurgent stronghold west of Baghdad.

These people are patriots standing up for their country. It's not enough to lament their sacrificial service. We must give them a modicum of protection.

You have your orders, General. Make it so. (hand salute)

His CO is the jerk

Bush Pushes His Version of Iraq War Bill [link]
Outside the school, Julia Goodman, 40, of Riverside, was among five protesters. She said her family was told Wednesday that her nephew's Humvee had been hit by an explosive device in Iraq. "He's lost his hearing," she said. "This is the fourth time he's been injured over there and has yet to get a Purple Heart," Goodman said. "That's one reason why I'm really angry about this whole thing going on. These boys are over there and fighting and they're not getting any recognition for what they're going."

Don't blame the President. Your son's CO is the jerk.

Besides, not getting a Purple Heart medal is no big deal. My little brother didn't care though he carries NVA shrapnel in his leg to this day.

If this really bothers you, do something real. Take it up with your Senator and your Representative.

Put a fork into him

Gonzales Struggles to Sway Skeptics [link}
WASHINGTON - Attorney General Alberto Gonzales struggled Thursday to convince skeptical senators he did nothing improper in firing eight federal prosecutors, losing ground as a second senator from his own party joined the calls for his resignation.

And, it should not have been a struggle. Federal prosecutors can be let go for any reason or none at all. The fact that Gonzales is acting like a defendant suggests he does not realize this. As such, he is incompetent and should be let go.

Put a fork into him. I think he's done.

Hey, Jesse

You have excoriated Don Imus for his remarks. Have you ever apologized for your own "heime town" ethnic slur? Don Imus didn't do right. But criticism from you is disingenuous at best.

No one took you to task, so I think you should keep your big mouth shut.

Good news...

Prosecutors Drop Charges in Duke Case [link]
RALEIGH, N.C. - The Duke lacrosse rape case finally collapsed Wednesday, with North Carolina's top prosecutor saying the three athletes were railroaded by a district attorney who ignored increasingly flimsy evidence in a "tragic rush to accuse."

So, is this the end of it? One would hope so. But:

Nifong was out of town and could not immediately be reached for comment. But his lawyer, David Freedman, said: "If further investigation showed the boys were innocent, he would be in agreement with what the attorney general's office decided to do."

Block headed to the end. Nifong deserves to have the 'book' thrown at him to serve as a warning to other prosecutors.

Speaking of 'other prosecutors', how about Patrick Fitzgerald and his conduct during the 'Plame Affair?' Did he not cover up material evidence at the outset of the investigation?

More evidence

More evidence of Democrat Party's incapacity to govern.

House Questions Info on Tillman, Lynch [link]
SAN FRANCISCO - A U.S. House committee announced Tuesday it would hold hearings on misleading military statements that followed the friendly fire death of Pat Tillman in Afghanistan and the rescue of Pfc. Jessica Lynch in Iraq.
The Tillman affair was unfortunate. A sports hero killed in a friendly fire incident. Who could be so cold as to not be anguished by that? It wasn't right to make up a story, but it was understandable. After all, our Military personnel do have a human heart.

But, now what? The Congress going after Pfc. Jessica Lynch?

"The truth, the truth, this is only a search for the truth," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said at a news conference in San Francisco.

Feh! It's not about the truth. It's about exacting tribute from the Administration. No matter whose reputation they trample on in the process. Small minded and petty, the Democrat Party is not suited to govern.

NPR crocodile tears

Soldier Dies Two Months Into an Iraq Tour [link]

This is a perfect example of how the liberal press focuses on the negative. This story, which is typical of NPR's reporting, features a disadvantaged man from Puerto Rico, the first of his family to graduate from high school, who joins the Marines and dies in Iraq.

This is a regular feature of All Things Considered on NPR and one might think they are honoring our gallant fallen in battle.

Nothing could be further.

NPR, along with the rest of the liberal press, concentrates on these stories—to the exclusion of all others—in order to undermine the will of the Nation.

Lance Cpl. Angel Rosa is a true hero who deserves the honor of the Nation.

People should take notice that NPR's reportage sullies Cpl. Rosa's heroism simply because they use it to undermine the current Administration.

Shame on NPR.

Lessons from Iraq

Iraqi Details 'Shocking' U.S. Missteps [link]
NEW YORK - In a rueful reflection on what might have been, an Iraqi government insider details in 500 pages the U.S. occupation's "shocking" mismanagement of his country _ a performance so bad, he writes, that by 2007 Iraqis had "turned their backs on their would-be liberators."

The article goes on to detail a litany of mistakes committed by the Administration and Bremmer.

And, I, despite my disdain for AP reporting, believe the essence of this story.

It was obvious to me, after the first day our soldiers reached Bhagdad, that things were going badly wrong: Civil disobedience on a large scale, looting, arms caches not secured, pronouncements that 'nation building is not part of the mission', and finally, the staged 'mission accomplished' vignette on the aircraft carrier.

And, Bremmer, instead of ordering the Iraqi Army to barracks, he dismissed them all.

Then he imposed the draconian measure of dismissing all Baathists from civil service, even if their membership in the party was token.

All this might have been excusable if not for going to war with Rumsfeld's undermanned army. An army, noble in purpose, but not equipped to handle the aftermath. This has to be the most grating aspect.

Despite the foregoing, one should not conclude Pelosi, Reid and Murtha have the right idea on how to proceed from here; they don't.

On the other hand, we must not engage in another fight like Iraq without a properly equipped army. And, striving to that end is more noble than the alternative.

Democrats—The Isolationist Party

This editorial piece from 18 Doughty Street upbraids the British people for their desire to 'retreat into what [commentator] Donal calls "cowardly isolation".'

But, it's not just the Brits. The Democrats led by Pelosi, Murtha and Reid are heading down the same path:

ConAgra?

Moisture Led to Salmonella Outbreak [link]
OMAHA, Neb. - Moisture from a leaky roof and faulty sprinkler helped salmonella bacteria grow and contaminate peanut butter at its Georgia plant last year, sickening more than 400 people nationwide, ConAgra Foods said Thursday.

Oh, crap. The stuff smelled bad but they processed it anyway. Where did they store the stuff? In an old barn?

Keep it up ConAgra, and you will go the way of Archer Daniels Midland--to jail.

Heh. This is rich

Scientists Meet, Debate Climate Change [link]
BRUSSELS, Belgium - Scientists and diplomats from more than 120 countries debated the urgency of changes in the Earth's climate Wednesday as they tried to finalize a report on global warming that will guide policymakers for decades to come.

But, here is the best part:

It will be presented at a Group of Eight leaders summit in June in Germany, during which the European Union will press President Bush to sign on to international talks to cut emissions.

Fever! They have the Fever!

If the EU dupes are so convinced of their ability to swing Nature around, let them take the first step.

After all, actions speak louder than words.

Nincompoops.

More from the Senate resident looney...

Reid May Move to Cut Iraq War Funds
WASHINGTON - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Monday he wants to cut off money for the Iraq war next year, making clear for the first time that Democrats are willing to pull out all the stops to end U.S. involvement.[link]

Not only have Reid's stops been pulled out years ago, but his brains drained out through the holes.
