Stop the Insanity

Today, at 8:30PM local time, comes the so-called "Earth Hour".  By turning off all lights for an hour, you will join the liberal elite's chorus:   "You Sir and Madam are the cause of Global Climate Change.  Repent!  Sacrifice! For the good of The Earth! "

The globalists even have a  Website dedicated to Earth Hour:

More... We need the world to take action on Global Warming. And you can start here. Use Earth Connect to share your thoughts about Global Warming. In the lead up to Copenhagen, your words will be more important than ever before.
JOIN THE MOVEMENT
Become a part of the Earth Connect network. VOTE EARTH and help spread the word.

The reference to Copenhagen is about the UN's latest attempt to exert control over us.  It's actually a follow-up to the (justifiably) failed Kyoto Protocol.

One thing is correct:  Our voices are important.  If we stay silent and follow like sheep there is a chance a ruinous regulatory regime will be imposed on us.

So, I shall, like many others, participate in Earth Hour by turning on all lights.  It's the only way we can stop the insanity.

Mr. President: Is this science, too?

Scientists find safer way to make human stem cells

One of the first pronouncements our new President made was that he would restore science to its proper place.  Whereupon, he revoked the previous Administration's restriction on use of Federal funds for research using embryonic stem cells.

Now, we have this announcement from the science community:

A team at the University of Wisconsin said they made the so-called induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPS cells, from human cells without using viruses or exotic genes, which leave behind genetic material that might pose risks if the cells were used as medical therapies.

So, I guess, the need for destroying embryos in the name of science wasn't so crucial after all.  Maybe, even, ill-advised.  That makes Obama's stance sound more than a little like hubris.

It was so predictable

I have an article in work discussing all the problems that will come up in rolling out Obama's green programs; specifically, renewable energy.  In it, I cited the Mojave desert tortoise as a potential obstacle to deploying solar power arrays.  Sure enough,  Sen. Feinstein (D-CA) did not disappoint.

Feinstein seeks block solar power from desert land

WASHINGTON — California's Mojave Desert may seem ideally suited for solar energy production, but concern over what several proposed projects might do to the aesthetics of the region and its tortoise population is setting up a potential clash between conservationists and companies seeking to develop renewable energy.

Nineteen companies have submitted applications to build solar or wind facilities on a parcel of 500,000 desert acres, but Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Friday such development would violate the spirit of what conservationists had intended when they donated much of the land to the public.

Feinstein said Friday she intends to push legislation that would turn the land into a national monument, which would allow for existing uses to continue while preventing future development.

Be careful what you wish for

House passes tax to recoup most of AIG bonuses

The next time you hear complaints over a do-nothing Congress, give praise.

Why? I'm glad you asked.  Consider how the House passed the 90-percent tax on certain bonus payments and the stock market tanked:

Stocks stumble toward 2nd weekly gain in a row

The mood on Wall Street seemed to darken as the week wore on because of the controversy over those $165 million in bonuses at American International Group (AIG, news, msgs). Not so much because investors thought AIG was being unfairly singled out.

Rather the fear was that Congress' legislation to tax the AIG bonuses and other bonuses retroactively would drive top talent out of banks and other financial companies that have received government aid. Nineteen states now have opened investigations into the bonuses.

Chinese Naval Adventurism

US protests 'harassment' by Chinese vessels

WASHINGTON – Chinese ships surrounded and harassed a Navy mapping ship in international waters off China, at one point coming within 25 feet of the American boat and strewing debris in its path, the Defense Department said Monday...

At one point during the incident Sunday the unarmed USNS Impeccable turned fire hoses on an approaching Chinese ship in self defense,...

We probably sprayed them with sea water.   But, we should have taken the opportunity to empty the latrine holding tanks.
