Another Spurious Global Warming Claim

Statistics experts reject global cooling claims

According to this AP report, the AP commissioned “independent statisticians” to examine some “global temperature” data and render a judgment as to whether or not the Earth is currently undergoing a cooling period.
The statisticians, reviewing two sets of temperature data, found no trend of falling temperatures over time.
The statisticians involved and the data source were not identified.
News reports such as this need to be regarded with a healthy dose of skepticism.  The result of any analysis of this type depends on the data.  And, if the data are inappropriate or faulty—a not unlikely scenario—any conclusions drawn will be wrong.

Update:  Checking the Mauna Loa Solar Observatory logs shows the sun is in a very quiet phase when it should be well into an active phase.  This same behavior signaled the beginning of the Maunder Minimum spanning 1645 to 1715 and ushered in the mini-ice age.
