We Said, They Said

Pentagon chief regrets any problems from air strike

We said the air strike targeted insurgents firing on coalition troops on the Afghan side of the border.

They (the Pakistani Army) said we killed eleven of their paramilitary troops with air strikes within Pakistan.

We said, they said. Who is telling the truth?

I think both sides are. The story goes like this: The group we targeted was conducting an operation against Afghan coalition troops and that group included Pakistani paramilitary. We tracked them back to their safe haven in Pakistan and took them out.

The Paki populace is scarcely on good terms with their own government, much less us. A few of them saw an opportunity to take a few pot shots at us and lost.
